Such candour! Years in the making, Huestis’ documentary on hot sex in the time of HIV eclipses all those sensitive coming-out testimonies that were so important in the early years of Gay Lib. The opening dump on the noxious Jesse Helms sets the tone for an extremely raunchy collage of memories, life stories, object lessons and fantasies that gets to grips with the challenge of keeping desire alive and in focus.
